“In the Ribbons” – Don Principe

The 1999 Hanoverian stallion Don Principe (Donnerhall-SPS Papagena/Prince Thatch xx), owned by Maryanna Haymon of Marydell Farm, Columbus, N.C., and bred by Adelheid Bruening, Ger., ranked second in the 2011 USEF standings in the Sire division for Sport Horse Breeding. Don Principe was also named Reserve Champion for 2011 USDF Hanoverian All-Breeds Awards in Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle. His offspring earned Marydell Farm the Champion title for Breeding by the USEF in 2011.

After two months of training in Germany this summer with Klaus Balkenhol, Don Principe and his rider Jennifer Baumert returned to find success at Dressage at Devon. They placed fourth in both the Grand Prix and the Freestyle. In November, Don Principe performed his new freestyle in “Fantasia” at the Equine Affaire in West Springfield, Mass., to sold out crowds of over 5,000 people under lights for three nights. In December, Don Principe won the Grand Prix Freestyle in Florida at the Jim Brandon Center with a score of 76.625%.
