Following an AHS membership referendum, the society no longer requires that frozen semen sellers and distributors submit Reports of Mares Bred or issue Stallion Certificates of Service for mares inseminated by this method.
Instead, beginning in 2008, it is now the responsibility of the mare owner to submit a properly completed, signed and dated Frozen Semen Insemination Form for each mare bred using frozen semen. The mare owner’s attending veterinarian or technician is required to indicate the date of each insemination and sign appropriately.
By submitting the form, the mare owner agrees to abide by the Corporate Bylaws and Rules of Registration of The American Hanoverian Society. The Frozen Semen Insemination document will suffice for registering eligible AHS foals sired by stallions standing abroad (principally Germany), in addition to the use of frozen semen of either deceased Elite stallions or approved stallions standing through this breeding method in the United States.
This document may be requested upon application to the offices of The American Hanoverian Society at which time the mare owner must provide AHS with the sire and dam of the foal due. Owners of AHS Elite stallions are still required to issue breeding reports and Stallion Service Certificates for any mares bred using methods other than frozen semen, for example fresh semen, transported or chilled semen, natural cover, etc.
