Photo Above: It is hoped a renewed focus on breeding jumpers will result in more Hanoverians youngsters like John Gillien's Rendition (Rio Grande-EM Katrin/Kalypso) being shown the Young Jumper Championship Seriers under top riders.

For many years now the American Hanoverian Society has offered year-end awards for Hanoverians that are competing in USEF recognized Jumper divisions.

The AHS has offered awards for the divisions that USEF gives National or Zone (sections of the country as defined by USAEq) points. These divisions are: Grand Prix Jumpers, Amateur Owner Jumpers and Junior Jumpers that are tracked nationally; and Adult Amateur Jumpers that are tracked in the Zones only. The AHS has used these USEF divisions because they are tabulated by the USEF staff and each horse’s points/money won are posted on the USEF website at the end of the year.

Recently, the AHS has become aware that there are quite a few "other" Jumper divisions that USEF does not track. There are several big Jumper organizations that have their own levels of classes, such as Stadium Jumping, which holds the shows in Wellington, Fla., during the winter and several other locations in the summer; and HITS (Horse Shows in the Sun), which holds shows in Ocala, Indio, Tucson, Tahoe, Culpeper, the Catskills in N.Y., etc. These organizations have divisions for five-, six-, and seven-year-old Young Jumpers, as well as High, Medium and Low Amateur Owner Jumper divisions. Additionally, there are Children’s, Juniors, and Senior Jumpers divisions and others that are defined by height, but still not quite in the Grand Prix category. In other words, there are many more divisions which USEF does not track and which do not always fit into one of their categories.

The AHS would like to include registered Hanoverians who are competing in these divisions in our year-end awards, as was done in beginning in 2002. In order to accomplish this successfully, assistance is needed from the owners of the horses competing in these "other divisions."

The AHS would like to include registered Hanoverians who are competing in these divisions in our year-end awards, as was done since 2002. In order to accomplish this successfully, assistance is needed from the owners of the horses competing in these "other divisions." It is impossible to find all of the AHS-registered Hanoverians from these other groups just by looking at the results posted on their websites. There are too many shows, in too many places, and over too many dates for the Awards Committee to track them effectively.

If you would like your younger Hanoverian Jumper’s winnings to be tabulated, you must submit them by finding the exact show and class listings posted on the Stadium Jumping (www.stadiumjumping.com) and HITS (www.horseshowsinthesun.com) websites and forwarding them to the AHS Awards Committee.

Please include the show names, dates, classes, and of course, your horse’s name (AHS registered and show name if different). Also include the owner’s name and the division in which the horse competed. The Awards Committee will then keep track of your horse’s winnings as the year goes on, and use the total dollar amount won by each horse that year to determine the winner.

You can send a written note to the AHS Central Office (attention Awards Committee) detailing the pertinent information after each show, or you can e-mail the Awards Committee at cathy-slaterbeck@earthlink.net with the details each time (or every several times) your horse competes, and we will keep tabs on him/her. It will also be very helpful if you fill out the Performance Awards Form to give us your horse’s pertinent information and to alert us that they are competing in these divisions. Please send this form to the AHS Central Office. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the central office or contact the Awards Committee directly at the e-mail address above.

Since 2007, the AHS has now incorporated the Young Jumper awards as part of the Hunter/Jumper awards. This change is because the winners are taken from the USEF Young Jumper categories.
