Important Revision to Pedigree Upgrade Procedure

During its teleconference meeting of April 9, the board of directors of the American Hanoverian Society accepted an important revision to the ongoing procedure for studbook revisions and consequent pedigree upgrades. This revision concerns Thoroughbred, Arabian and Anglo-Arabian mares previously entered into AHS's breeding program. The balance of this notice refers to Thoroughbreds but applies to Arabian and Anglo-Arabian mares as well.

Jumper Breeding Program Updates

The Jumper Breeding Committee met during the AHS Annual Meeting in early February. Several ideas were discussed that will result in some exciting new programs for promoting North American-bred show jumpers and for educating those interested in breeding show jumpers.

ES For Paragon (1994-2008)

The Elite Hanoverian stallion For Paragon (For Pleasure-SPS Pascona/Pinkus) has passed away due to injuries incurred in a stable accident. From 1998 through 2007, For Paragon sired 20 AHS registered offspring, including two Main Studbook mares.

ES Graf Genius (1991-2008)

Louise Broadley of Honey Locust Farm lost her gray Hanoverian
stallion Graf Genius (Graf Sponeck-Tarah/Trapper) to colic in
mid-March. A Jumper Breeding Program sire, he was bred in
Germany by Hans-Hermann Schroeder and was 17 years old.

Hanoverian Training Identification Program

The American Hanoverian Society's Training Identification/Auction Committee would like the members to understand how this new exciting program of identifying riders/trainers/facilities will work. A member will first apply to be inspected and listed in one or more of the current categories and checklists using the form posted above. The list of categories and checklists will be further developed over time. A current non-AHS member would be required to join as either an Associate or Active member and may do so by checking by the appropriate box on the Hanoverian Training Identification Application.

VDL to Offer Coconut Grove xx Frozen Semen in 2008

Hungarian Arabian Stud Babolna Slated to Close

In a open letter (January 19th, 2008) to Arabian and Shagya breeders all over the world Tamas Rombauer, past director the Hungarian Arabian State Stud of Babolna, announced that he was withdrawn from his position as it director. He mentioned that the horses would be placed in to conservatorship of private breeders, basically disbanded.

A New and Exciting Young Horse Preparation and Training Identification Program Announced for Hanoverian Breeders in North America

Recognizing the importance of skillful early training in raising, preparing and marketing young horses for breed inspections, performance tests and sport, The American Hanoverian Society (AHS) and the German Hannoveraner Verband (HV, formerly identified as the VhW) are embarking on a new program for identifying experienced young horse riders, trainers and facilities that will provide such services to Hanoverian breeders in the U.S. and Canada.

2007 Year-End Awards

The results of the 2007 AHS Year-end Awards in Dressage, Hunter/Jumper, Sport Horse Breeding and Eventing have all been posted. Please submit photos of the Champion and Reserve Champion horses in each division for publication on the website and in the spring awards issue of The American Hanoverian magazine.

2008 AHS Stallion Service Auction

Details are being finalized for the 2008 AHS Stallion Service Auction. Thus far, 39 services have been donated by generous owners.

Bidding will open in mid-January and ends Sunday, February 17, 2008.

Hanoverians Finish Strong in the Finals of the 2007 100-Day Stallion Performance Test at Paxton Farm

When the final results were tallied and announced at the conclusion of the Sporthorse Stallion Testing, LLC-sponsored 100-Day Stallion Performance Test on November 11, 2007, seven Hanoverians claimed top ten positions among the 16 stallions that completed the rigorous process.

100-Day Stallion Performance Test Final Results

The results for the 100-Day Stallion Performance Test are now available on the AHS website. The test, which began on August 3, concluded with a three day Final Test on November 8-10 for the 100-Day Stallions, Short Test Stallions and Pony Stallions.

Always eagerly anticipated, the Annual AHS Breeders' Guide, Stallion Directory and Mare Book is mailed free to all AHS active members prior to the spring breeding season. Advertising positions will be accepted through October 1 for the 2008 edition. Stallion owners are asked to complete the appropriate forms which were mailed on 8/16 and return them no later than October 1.

2007 100-Day Stallion Performance Test Underway

Friday, August 3 marked Day 1 of this year’s 100-Day Stallion Performance Test. The testing is based at John and Janet’s showplace facility in Batavia, Ohio, located just off the beltline that encircles Cincinnati. The Training Leader is Helmut Schrant, ably assisted by a team of highly qualified riders and grooms from Germany. The testing is run by a company known as Sporthorse Stallion Testing, LLC, owned equally by the American Hanoverian Society and International Sporthorse Registry/Oldenburg N.A. and jointly managed by Ekkehard Brysch from ISR and our own AHS President, Doug Leatherdale.
